Lucky Choice The Last Riders #7 Volume 7 Jamie Begley 9780692505670 Books Reviews
- So I had to really think about this review. In the end I am giving it 3 and 1/2 stars.
Man did I LOVE this book in the beginning. I really did. I loved the fact that Lucky needed to prove that he really did love Willa... all the crap he put her through. The book started out with great potential for an epic "forgive me for I have sinned" romance but then.... bam. Nope.
Don't get me wrong, I really did enjoy the book. But I Loathed the fact that Willa was the biggest push over and that she almost died Lucky finally wanted to be with her. Then it just skipped to 3 month later. The thing is, Lucky never atoned for the way he treated her or anything. It was just wham bam, thank you ma'am, you're mine.
Maybe it was Willa's pushover attitude, I don't know, but that just didn't sit right with me.
And Spoiler... Why in the world would you introduce a dog ONLY to kill it 3 pages later? What the hell was that? There was ZERO need for that.
But the book was okay. I'm no denying that. I just feel like it could have been so much better. - There are so many things that I like about this book and series it's hard to give it justice in a coup,e of paragraphs. Each book in the Last RIder series is a stand alone about a separate couple (Except Shade's Fall and Shade deals with same) Jamie Begley shows us once again why she has so many fans and why with her you should always expect the unexpected. Her books keep getting better and better as do seeing the other couples from previous books. Lucky (aka Pastor Dean) and Willa story has been long awaited by her fans-- everyone wanted this couple to get their HEA. And they got one with a beautiful and moving story along the way. There is lots of humor between Lucky and Shade and we finally meet WIlla and she is a hoot (love love that she mumbles what she really feels). There is lots of hot scenes, some surprises, lots of action and we get to see more of the LR.
Spoilers ahead--- WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS.
I loved how conflicted Lucky was. Can he be a Last Rider and a good man. Can he follow his calling in the pulpit and be a Last Rider? A lot of the book was spent exploring these sentiments and the resolution was unexpected but so so good!!! One thing I love about Jamie Begley's books is that she makes her characters real. There is doubt, her characters are flawed but at the end of the day they learn and grow and show us insight into what draws the original Last Rider men together. Never in 100 years could I have predicted that LUcky could have both WIlla/Last Riders and fulfill his calling. Willa surprised me- discovering who she was and how she became into her grove was wonderful. The writing and rewriting of her will (you will have to read the book to find out!) is some of the funniest scenes written.
You do not want to miss this book!!! - I don't even know where to begin with writing a review for this book. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I most definitely would! It was definitely worth the wait!!!!!
In this book we get to learn more about Lucky and Willa and what makes them the way that they are. I love that Jamie goes in to so much detail as to what has happened in both of their pasts to make them feel (about themselves and others) the way that they do. Even though there were brief views of them in other books that left me hanging on for more.
I also love the fact that it shows more about how the whole Last Rider family stand up for one another and support each other no matter what. That is one of the things that I love about this series. Everyone has one another's back and will do anything to help one of their family members out. This is shown best in Lucky's Choice, at least to me.
This book also shows that if you love someone enough, there isn't anything that you wouldn't do for them. It doesn't matter if the one you love is someone you are in a relationship with or someone you are trying to take care of. Every good relationship has some give and take and this book shows that for the right person, people will do things that they wouldn't normally do because the other person's happiness is more important to them.
If you have not read this series, than you are seriously missing out! This book alone had me laughing, crying, being angry, and wanting to learn more and more about other characters in this series. Each and every book just gets better and better!! - Although I really enjoyed this latest addition to "The Last Riders" series, I felt there was something "off". This book seemed to be almost like two separate stories put together. In the first half (which I liked more than the second) we get a ton of tension, and emotions rolling off the characters, spurred on by angry worlds, hurt feelings, and callus actions. I didn't mind this--I read the previous books of the series, so I knew what to expect. Lucy's "fun" with other women seemed almost normal due to the author's portrayal of the characters through the other story arcs. All of a sudden, around half way through the book, the story's feel took a complete 180 for me. In a blink of an eye, Lucky and Willa are a couple and engaged--for real. They seem like an old married couple (who doesn't actually know anything about each other). The tone of the book went from angsty to sweet, and it lost the "edge" that I was liking so much. What was missing for me, was just some kind of "bridge" to show the relationship actually building. Willa seemed to take everything in stride to easily, and Lucky seemed to change his mind too quickly. I did like them together as a couple. I just wish we would get a better feel of that exciting feeling that comes with a new relationship forming--along with Willa giving him a harder time for being such a jerk for the first half of the book.
I do like this author's writing style, and also the interaction with the main cast of characters. I think it would have been a solid 5 star read for me if there was more of a build up to the H and h in an actual relationship.
